All Awardees are selected from the nominations received from the member societies, with the exception of the Early Career Awards, which are selected from among the abstract presenters.
Award information
Scientific Awards
Lifetime Achievement Award
This award recognizes substantial contributions to behavioral medicine over the whole of a career. Recipients are recognized for distinguished scholarly contributions to the science of behavioral medicine across a productive career.
Distinguished Scientist Award
This award recognizes distinguished theoretical or empirical contributions to behavioral medicine. Recipients have made several outstanding contributions to the science of behavioral medicine.
Outstanding New Investigator Award
This award recognizes an outstanding contribution by a new investigator to the science of behavioral medicine. Recipients have made a specific, outstanding contribution to the science of behavioral medicine, and are more experienced than those who apply for the Early Career Award.
Early Career Award
This award recognizes an important contribution to the science of behavioral medicine at an early career stage. Applicants should be no further than seven years after their highest degree and/or have held a faculty or professional position for no more than seven years.

Service Awards
Distinguished Career Contribution Award
This award recognizes a distinguished career as a leader in the field of behavioral medicine. Recipients have made distinguished contributions at national or regional level to the development of behavioral medicine. Contributions can be to behavioral medicine as a clinical field or as a field in public health and health promotion; to teaching of behavioral medicine; or to mentoring in the field of behavioral medicine.
Contributions to International Collaborations Award
This award recognizes important contributions to facilitate international collaboration in the field of behavioral medicine. Recipients have made distinguished contributions to facilitate collaboration between ISBM member societies, or between ISBM and organizations outside ISBM.
Health and Behavior International Collaborative (HBIC) Award
The purpose of the grant is to facilitate a mentorship collaboration with an international laboratory or research group under the guidance of an identified international mentor.
This grant is jointly sponsored by:
- the International Society of Behavioral Medicine (ISBM)
- the Society for Health Psychology of the American Psychological Association (SfHP)
- the American Psychosomatic Society (APS)
- the Society of Behavioral Medicine, USA (SBM)
- the German Society for Behavioral Medicine and Behavioral Modification (DGVM, or Deutsche Gesellschaft für Verhaltensmedizin and Verhaltensmodifikation)
- the International Behavioural Trials Network (IBTN)
International Journal of Behavioral Medicine (IJBM) Awards
These awards are designed to recognize excellence in publication and contribution to the field of behavioral medicine through publishing in IJBM.
Springer Award for Excellence in Publication in Behavioral Medicine
This annual award begun in 2019 and is sponsored by our publishing partner, Springer Nature. The award acknowledges excellence behavioral medicine research published in the International Journal of Behavioral Medicine.
IJBM Regional Awards for Excellence in Publication in Behavioral Medicine
These awards recognize important publications in behavioral medicine. Regional awards include an awardee each from Asia, Australia, North America, South America, and Europe.
